MIAMI BEACH HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD APPROVES MAJOR BIKE PATH PROJECT ON DADE BOULEVARD

The operators of the DECOBIKE Miami Beach Bikeshare are pleased to announce that the long-overdue Dade Boulevard Bicycle & Pedestrian Pathway project is moving forward. After much debate, the Historic Preservation Board gave its final approvals to commence construction on this project that was almost in jeopardy of losing approximately $4,000,000 in federal grant funding.

DECOBIKE advocated for this project to improve mobility in the community for all, whether traveling by bike, on foot or in a wheelchair as a substantial measure to increase safety in this busy area. It also puts other improvements including landscaping and noise-reducing barriers for nearby residents. With thousands of daily riders, the DECOBIKE bicycle sharing program always seeks to improve local bicycle infrastructure.

Construction commences today on this project and should be substantially complete by August 2012.
