DecoBike Miami Beach is pleased to announce that as of this week it has generated more than 3,000,000 rides! This amazing stat makes the Miami Beach bike share fleet the busiest in the country per bike, going out more times per day than any other US program. We want to thank our members and patrons for making this possible.
The Miami Beach community has truly embraced the concept of bike sharing and helped elevate it to a part of everyday life. To date, only one other bike share program in the US has reached the 3,000,000 ride milestone. This mean better air quality, healthier residents and happier people! Good job Miami Beach!
Today the San Diego City Council approved a long-term contract with DecoBike LLC to implement and operate a city-wide bicycle sharing program. The approval included a 10-year contract term as well as modifications of the city’s sign ordinances to allow advertising and sponsor branding on the bike sharing stations to help offset operations and capital costs while also earmarking a portion of revenues for improving bicycle infrastructure throughout the city to benefit all residents and visitors. Also notable is the fact that DecoBike will launch the program without using any tax payer funds.
Representatives from nearly a dozen advocacy groups spoke at the city council meeting in support of the program, and to date, DecoBike has received unanimous support from all city council members.
Colby Reese, DecoBike’s chief marketing officer and co-founder, who spoke in front of the city council announced, “Today marks the beginning of a very exciting public-private partnership between DecoBike and the City of San Diego. We are touched by the enthusiasm of the community. This is a journey that everyone benefits from. Simply put, it’s going to be the best ride in town.”
DecoBike co-founders Ricardo Pierdant and Bonifacio Diaz were also on hand for the council meeting. Mr. Pierdant exclaimed “The addition of DecoBike in San Diego will help to complete the city’s transportation networks as a highly efficient first-mile, last-mile commuter program, which is very complimentary to the city’s existing public transportation programs.”
Diaz added, “San Diego is such a beautiful city and we strive to improve mobility and the quality of life for everyone. Our program will create jobs, reduce air pollution and traffic congestion while moving people more efficiently around the city.”
Bike sharing programs have been proven to be effective at increasing commerce in the areas in which they operate, especially at retail, hospitality and food and beverage establishments. Various programs have conducted surveys with results indicating bike share members are 80-90% more likely on average to patronize establishments near bike share station locations. Ultimately, the results demonstrate bikes are good for business.
Public outreach will take place over the next couple months in order to identify the best station locations. Residents can expect significant program coverage and station distribution, initially stretching from the Downtown and Hillcrest areas and up the coast to La Jolla. A crowdsourcing map will go live in August to allow all members of the public to suggest station locations. The program is slated to open in early 2014 with approximately 180 station locations and 1,800 custom bikes.

Today marks the 2nd Anniversary of DecoBike’s award-winning Miami Beach Bikeshare program. In just two years the program has logged 2,133,530 rides and has generated in excess of 600,000 casual and subscription memberships—more than all other US bicycle sharing programs combined. We would like to thank all of our members and our staff, as well as the overwhelming support provided by the city of Miami Beach and our local residents and business community.
DecoBike’s expansion of its bikeshare operations into the city of Miami was approved on Thursday January 24th with a unanimous vote by the city commission. Plans include 50 new station locations and 500 bikes to be located in Miami’s downtown, Coconut Grove, Omni, Little Havana, Midtown, Design District and the Brickell Financial District. Other potential station locations include the Health District to serve Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami’s healthcare facilities. The new network will link with DecoBike’s well-known Miami Beach bike sharing program to form one of the largest programs in the US with 150+ station locations and more than 1,500 bikes. The expected launch date is in late 2013.
2012 marked a record-breaking year for DecoBike LLC’s Miami Beach bike sharing program with the country’s highest increase in ridership. With 1,290,606 rides logged in 2012 alone, it’s the busiest fleet per-bike of any US bikeshare program and represents more than a 100% increase in ridership from 2011. The program is a true leader with nearly 2 million total trips logged– more usage than all other US bike share programs combined, with the exception of Washington DC’s government-owned Capital Bikeshare.
2013 rings in DecoBike’s scheduled expansion into a variety of new territories including the city of San Diego and other areas of Miami-Dade County, adding an estimated 240 new stations and 2,400 DecoBikes into the streets with other new programs to be announced in the coming months.
